INSPIRATION AFRICA!
Project 4
Rectory Paddock Special School
POETRY/PERFORMANCE

On the afternoon of the final day a joint performance was arranged to celebrate the end of the project at Rectory Paddock and also Kemnal Technology College. Tony started the proceedings by introducing the Banner Book outcome from Project 1.

Each pupil had also screen printed and sewed a bag into which their individual poems had been placed. Some read their poems before ceremoniously hanging their bags onto the inside of the book thereby empowering it.

Next it was Rectory Paddock's turn to show the screen printed artwork they had produced. Pupils circled the room and some posed for the camera with their project partners. These individual pages make up the split page HARMONY book.

During the morning some Kemnal pupils had worked with their Rectory partners preparing short pieces and interviews about the project which they then read out together.

Also some pupils from Rectory Paddock read out poems that they had produced with Sola over the project (see pictures and link above). Featured in a pop-up window are acrostic name poems, referring to favourite things, which were often worked on communally. Follow this link to read the poems but please use your browser back button to return to this page.

Adjectives were used and explored throughout the project to describe emotions, sometimes referring back to the visit to the African Worlds exhibition. An example of this was where a Kemnal pupil interviewed their Rectory partner about what they had seen at the Horniman Museum. The Rectory pupil had observed a pig on a mask which made them feel grumpy and so a poem was written around this which was read out at the performance.
