Each of the two classes screen printed their own deck chair cover and large ceremonial umbrella. To create the cover they began by hand painting freely and directly onto the fabric, scraping off the excess ink with a squeegee, then mono-printing textures on top using either warm or cold colour spectrums. Roll your mouse over the above pictures to see close-ups of the mono-printing process.

Each boy then selected a shape referring to their work sheets from the African Worlds visit, drew it up large and cut it out. The shapes were then put together and screen printed on top of the hand painting creating negative images. The covers were now ready to be fixed to the deck chairs.

Follow this link to see how the umbrella was printed and see the final display.
