You may wish to use the form on the opening page to guage pupils' current knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust. Their responses are sent to Cloth of Gold as simple text e-mails and may be returned to you if you require them.

Virtual Visitors Online Project Description of Activities

The project is in five stages:-
Stage 1
Exploring how we communicate
Pupils explore facial expressions and body language and the emotions and the messages that they can convey through simple 10 minute drawing games using pencil and paper and short drama exercises.

Stage 2
Preparation for the visitor
Pupils take a series of digital photographs of locations where they might meet or interact with the virtual visitor when they arrive (e.g. playground, school dinner hall, school gates etc.)
They are also photographed role playing a series of poses in pairs and small groups that describe different responses to the visitors arrival (e.g. welcoming, hostile, friendly, shy, curious etc.)

Stage 3
The visitors arrives
Pupils use PowerPoint to combine backgrounds, group photos and pictures of the visitors that they meet on the website. They then attribute thoughts and speech to the tableaux and may develop them into animated photo stories.

Stage 4
Developing empathy through sharing stories
Pupils then hear the story of the visitor and/or access project chat room or email to ask and answer questions from them.
They share what they have learned with one another and develop glueless temporary photomontages in response to the stories.

Stage 5
Invitations
(In the classroom or with computers depending on outcomes)
Pupils develop a digital invitation to the visitor to participate in an activity and incorporate them into their lives.
