INSPIRATION AFRICA!
Project 5
Christ Church Primary School
INTERNET/VIRTUAL BANNER

Year 5 had a computer with internet connection in their classroom and had taken it in turns to see the site and examples of work from previous projects on the introduction day.

This day, along with the visit to the museum, was documented in detail on the website during the project so that the pupils could see themselves on the internet. It was also used as a teaching aid, providing a focus for the project and refreshing memories!

Searches for their key object, the ijele mask, were carried out with the pupils but they could find no further pictures, only references. The children did, however, find many sites relating to Nigeria which they found interesting as they were studying Nigeria for their topic.

Worksheet formPupils completing form

A worksheet form was put on the site relating to their project. There were ten questions with pictures and boxes to fill in. Why don't you try it out - all of the answers can be found on the Inspiration Africa! Website.

Pupils continued to respond to the worksheet throughout the project. The forms, which are sent directly to Jacqui the website developer, arrive as e-mails which can be printed out, corrected and then shown to the pupils.

The website was also used to teach pupils the call and response songs that Ayo had shown them and which were to be used in the final performance. Jacqui taped Ayo singing with a mini-disk recorder and created a webpage that the children could access, featuring the words and melodies of the songs. E-mail was also used to send the edited version of the Tortoise and the Elephant script (now available from the literacy page) back to the classroom teacher, enabling the class to print off copies and start practising independently before the next project day.
