INSPIRATION AFRICA!
Project 2
Sandhurst Junior School
Poetry and Literacy
Following on from the drama session in the hall, Year 5 used mirrors to draw their faces now and as they hoped they might become when older. They then wrote individual poems about their projected features remembering what they had learnt about beauty from studying the Mende mask.
"From studying the Mende mask we thought about beauty in detail. We learnt that people see beauty in many different ways and we decided beauty comes from the inside as much as from the outside. We wrote poems about our inner and outer beauty and our hopes. We would like to share some of these with you."
THESE EYES OF MINE CAN SEE EVERYTHING I WANT TO SEE AND DISCOVER DIFFERENT CULTURES
THIS NOSE OF MINE CAN SMELL THE RAIN-FORESTS, THEJUNGLES, THE WILDLIFE
THIS MOUTH OF MINE CAN EXPRESS WHAT I KNOW AND WHAT I WANT TO KNOW
THESE EARS OF MINE CAN HEAR WHAT PEOPLE HAVE GOT TO SAY AND THEIR FEELINGS
THIS HAIR OF MINE CAN GROW AS LONG AS MY INTELLIGENCE CAN STRETCH
THIS FACE OF MINE WILL SOON HAVE ADULT FEATURES OF LUSCIOUS LIPS, SOFT DELICATE SKIN AND TEETH AS WHITE AS SNOW
THIS BODY OF MINE WILL SOON BE FREE TO CHALLENGE AND EXPLORE THE WORLD.
