When they were all in Lionrene's boat the current was trying to pull them back down the mountain and Leo and Sly Slither were scared of falling out of the boat, then Scorpio said, "Stop the river looks black!" They looked over and it was black, Leo said, "The river's black, the river's black!" and so it was, and it had stopped flowing as well.

Everyone had to get out of the boat and walk. Lionrene said to the others, "Why do you want to go up there? It doesn't look like a very nice place." It wasn't either, the clouds were grey and the trees were nearly dead. Some of the trees were snapped through, it was the monster who had done it.

They saw a shadow on the snow and when they looked it disappeared into a cave, so they followed it and it turned out to be the monster everyone was talking about.

"Roar, Roar, Rattle, Rattle, Click, Click," they all went together, "Roar, Roar, Rattle, Rattle, Click, Click," as they went, "Walk, Walk, Slither, Slither, Scuttle, Scuttle, Walk, Walk, Slither, Slither, Scuttle, Scuttle."
