But the monster broke his promise as soon as the animals said "We will let you go." He ran away and went back to being a horrible monster.
But good for the animals! They crept up on the monster and said, "What are you doing?" The monster tried to pretend he was doing nothing wrong, but the animals were not fooled. "You did not keep your promise, we were watching you all the time."
Then the monster said "I have not been a bad monster! I will stay in my cave and I promise to be good."
The animals stayed outside the cave keeping watch on the monster, but after a while they became tired, and fell asleep.
