Drawings from River Banner by Nursery and Reception classes

River Banner

Nursery and Reception Classes

The children from Nursery and Reception classes worked together to create the River Banner.

The River Banner

The project was designed to involve the children in both printing and painting and the overall design format within which the children worked was inspired by overlapping wave patterns formed on the river by passing ships.

Both classes began the project with sketching trips at the river side. Some of the children drew boats and birds whilst others concentrated on shapes and patterns on the water.

The drawings were all enlarged and details were cut out and used to screen print in various ways. The more abstract shapes were printed in dark colours and then hand painted in a selection of colours taken from the other banners.

Other shapes were printed in sections using alternating two colour over prints and areas in between were freely hand painted in diluted colours on wet canvas that diffused and blended to create a water like effect.
