In the autumn term of 1997 Cloth of Gold began a series of residencies in special schools across the outer London boroughs of Haringey, Enfield and Harrow. The project was funded by the London Borough Grants Committee, the Baring Foundation and the Education departments of the participating boroughs. It was set up to provide a unique creative opportunity for the pupils with disabilities to work alongside artists exploring new and exciting ways of working with textile printing. All of the work produced during the residencies was displayed in a series of exhibitions in the boroughs and in Central London. This proved a unique opportunity across London to raise the profile of artworks produced by children with disabilities and to promote the work of artists working in special education. The work was finally returned to the schools for permanent display on their premises. Artists who worked on the project: Anna Ferrie, Cath Bristow, Sara Mangen and Sarah Loftus |
